- Identity & Compliance Verification: Validate legal entitlement, authority, and consent before releasing official documentation.
- Stakeholder & Requester Liaison: Act as the primary point of contact for members of the public, delivering empathetic, professional communication while liaising internally across departments.

Career Guide & Key Insights
As a SAR Administrator, you sit at the crucial intersection of statutory compliance, data privacy, and public service.
How to Excel in Information Governance & SAR Handling
- Master Legal Frameworks: Develop a deep, practical understanding of UK GDPR exemptions (such as third-party privacy, social work records, and legal professional privilege).
- Prioritize Methodical Redaction: Redaction errors are a primary cause of regulatory breaches. Utilize specialized redaction software effectively and always perform secondary reviews on sensitive files.
- Emphasize Empathetic Communication: Requesters often seek personal or historical records during stressful life events. Maintaining clear, compassionate, and transparent communication reduces escalations and complaints.
Benefits of the Role
- Competitive Local Government Salary: SO1 scale ranging from £38,256 to £39,276 per annum.
- Good Work Standard Employer: Access to strong workplace well-being initiatives, fair working conditions, and inclusive team culture.
- Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS): Generous public sector pension contributions and leave entitlements.
- Professional Growth: Excellent platform to deepen expertise in information rights, data governance, and public sector compliance.
How to Prepare Your CV for This Position

- Showcase Experience with Sensitive Records: Highlight your experience handling complex files, particularly involving Children’s Social Care, legal, or multi-agency records.
- Quantify Case Throughput: Demonstrate accuracy and time management (e.g., “Managed a continuous caseload of 20+ complex statutory SARs monthly while maintaining a 100% deadline compliance rate”).
- Detail Audit & Case Management Systems: List specific case-logging databases, document management software, and electronic redaction tools you use regularly.
Interview Preparation Guide
1. Technical & Legislation Scenarios

- Managing Deadlines & Escalations: Describe your strategy for handling third-party delays while a statutory 1-month deadline is ticking.
